The Crime Writer’s Toolkit:
an intensive weekend with two leading crime writers
If you have a treatment of a novel and opening chapter bring it along – if not, then William Shaw and Phil Viner will help you develop it during the course of a packed weekend.
Wherever you are in the progress of your novel, they will challenge you to develop the tools you need to take your ideas through to completion. They will break down the components, tackle the structure and create individual plans for each writer to push forward with their books. This is a weekend of work – writing, plotting and planning – with fellow crime writers. This is a weekend which could turn you into a crime writer.
William Shaw is the author of the critically acclaimed Breen and Tozer trilogy of detective novels, set in 1968-9. A Book of Scars was picked as one of the top crime books of 2015 by the Sunday Times and the New York Times called it “an elegy for an entire neglected generation.”
Phil Viner (P.D.Viner) An award-winning film maker and playwright before turning to crime, Phil’s first novel The Last Winter of Dani Lancing was described by The Guardian as “a genuinely intriguing read”. The Sunday Mirror called his second The Summer of Ghosts “a modern-day revenge tragedy…laced with grim wit.”
